OSCON 2009 and Site Changes

We're headed to OSCON 2009 next week, the Open Source Conference hosted by O'Reilly. Dyn Inc. has been a lifelong supporter of open source, so we're excited to attend and learn new things from the leading names in open source technology. We're bringing the booth, so please stop by and see us at:

Where: OSCON 2009, Booth #316 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center
When: July 20-24
Giveaways: DynSchwag (koozies, lanyards, pens, etc.), "Break Free" t-shirts

In site news, we've been making some small changes here and there to DynDNS.com to better help our customers. For example, our Support section has been reorganized and received a light facelift, allowing customers to more easily locate the information they need. The e-mail contact form has also been slightly altered, providing relevant help based on the customer's question.

Another noticeable change is that WebHop hosts will no longer appear in update client host lists. The goal of this change is to help prevent customers from accidentally overwriting their WebHops and "breaking" the redirections. They can still be manually changed to regular host records from the host configuration page.

We have a couple of exciting things in the pipeline, but we're not quite ready to announce them just yet. You'll have to keep an eye on our Dynamic Discourse journal and @DynInc on Twitter. In the meantime, we hope to see you at OSCON 2009!

Spring Server VPS in Europe, Break Free Going Strong

Dyn Inc. is proud to announce that we've recently launched another cluster of systems for our Spring Server VPS, a virtual hosting solution utilizing the powerful Xen platform. Starting this week, our European customers will have the option to create new instances in Frankfurt, Germany in addition to our original datacenter in Chicago, Illinois.

"Our first Spring Server VPS datacenter was launched in September 2008 in Chicago," said Cory von Wallenstein, Lead Developer. "As part of our commitment to deploying the best possible global network for our customers, it was only natural that our second Spring Server VPS datacenter be located in central Europe, Frankfurt. Now, with a few clicks on DynDNS.com, customers will be able to have the best IPv4 and IPv6 VPS connectivity on two continents."

In other news, Dyn Inc. is riding the wave of the Break Free campaign to a record quarter on the enterprise side. We'd like to take a moment to highlight some of the Dynect Platform customers that have escaped with us to a better service recently:

  • Wikia, home to thousands of community sites that anyone can edit
  • StyleFeeder, an online shopping engine that tailors your results to your tastes
  • Squarespace, an elegant and fully hosted environment for creating websites
  • Yum! Brands, the world's largest restaurant company and owner of KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Long John Silver's
  • Music Choice, broadcasting commercial-free, high-quality music 24/7

We welcome them and many others to the greener pastures of Dyn Inc., and hope to see many others escape poor service and expensive contracts with the Dynect Platform in the future.
